Christmas logs

Print Friendly and PDF
It's Christmas time, time to be merry and jolly. I guess sometimes it's considered as a time to rush around trying to buy all the presents for your loved ones as well as a lot of parties.

I have a tradition for this period. I always prepare Christmas logs to give to friends and family. This desert resembles a wooden log. It's main ingredients are nuts, glazed fruits, biscuits and chocolate. Christmas logs are prepared in other countries however the Maltese version seems to be different.

  • 3 packets plain biscuits (Morning Coffee)
  • 200g glazed fruits (konfettura)
  • 100g glazed cherries
  • 1 packet dates
  • 1-2 big dark chocolates (to melt)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (kanella/kaneel)
  • 2tsps vanilla essence
  • 400g walnuts
  • 200g almonds (roasted)
  • 200g hazelnuts (roasted)
  • 4tbsp whiskey
  • 2 cans condensed milk (halib maghqud)
  • 1tsp nutmeg
  • 2tsps almond essence

  • Crush biscuits finely
  • Roast almonds and hazel nuts
  • Cut cherries in small pieces
  • Break walnuts in huge chunks
  • Mix everything together (except chocolate and condensed milk)
  • Add condensed milk, until the mixture is sticky and slightly solid
  • Shape up in a log form (rectangular shape with round corners)

  • Melt chocolate and cover the logs

  • Let cool.

The logs stay good for at least a couple of weeks. There's still enough time before Christmas. I suggest to try it out
